Melanie makes her home in the Texas Hill Country, and travels across the country in pursuit of her favorite subjects: birds, bugs, botanicals, hunting, fishing, and beautiful landscapes. Most of her field work is done with a camera, providing valuable reference from which to work in the quiet of her studio.
For over 33 years, Melanie has brought the beauty and drama of nature to her collectors offering them an intimate view of the natural world. She translates her sensitive perceptions into classically styled hand-colored etchings and watercolors. Melanie uses a ‘less is more’ philosophy, striving to capture attitude and personality with as few elements as possible.
Melanie’s dedication to her art has lead to inclusion in national and international exhibitions, feature articles, publication in books and numerous accolades. Her work is in private and corporate collections across the United States and abroad.
“I have always been drawn to nature - it is my livelihood, my recreation, my comfort, my home. It is who I am and what I know best.” - Melanie Fain
I work in the etching medium. I create my own plates and hand print each etching. Editions are limited to 150 or less to maintain the integrity of the etching. I use watercolors and pastels to hand color each etching. They are then numbered and signed.
Nature is my passion and inspiration. My etchings and paintings have been a labor of love. The joy comes in creating something from the heart: an experience or idea so powerful I had to record it. It is my privilege to have rendered the emotion of those moments into my etchings. My goal: to reflect the simple pleasure of looking at nature.
